What actually helps, and what quietly wastes your time.

Do

  • Build a daily reading habit early — it compounds into stronger Verbal Ability scores over months.
  • Rebuild quant fundamentals from Class 8-10 level books before jumping to advanced problem sets.
  • Take sectional mocks before attempting full-length ones, to isolate weak areas cleanly.
  • Track your percentile trend across mocks, not just the raw score — trend tells you more than any single test.
  • Prepare your WAT/GD/PI narrative alongside CAT prep, not after results — it's a real part of final selection.

Avoid

  • Don't ignore Logical Reasoning & Data Interpretation — it's often the most differentiating section.
  • Don't over-invest in quant alone if verbal is genuinely your weaker area.
  • Don't skip the post-mock review — every wrong answer is more instructive than the next new mock.
  • Don't leave your profile write-up (work experience, extracurriculars) to the last month before interviews.
  • Don't assume one exam commits you to one path — CUET, CAT and CA Foundation serve very different timelines and goals.
